Stories of hope

Lisa: my life is so blessed

Lisa V.

I was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (otherwise known as HCM) IN 2004, after breaking my nose at work. I hadn’t had a physical since I was 21, and now I was 31. So the doctor did an EKG on me and it looked like I was having a heart attack. He sent me right over to the cardiologist, and I was properly diagnosed. I lived in heart failure from 2004 until 2022 when I received my gift!

I was treating with an expert in the field of HCM, and he said, “Lisa, the time has come when we must list you for a heart transplant.”

I agreed and went right to work getting all of the testing done. I was listed officially on March 29th, 2022.

I received the most amazing call on Father’s Day, June 19th, 2022. They had a heart for me! The doctor asked if I wanted it. I asked questions and agreed. It was so amazing. I had my mom and my father-in-law, and my husband with me when I received the call.

I arrived at the hospital around 10pm that night after they called and said i could come in. The next day, on June 20th, I was wheeled into the O.R. at 5:15 pm. My brand new heart was working great just before midnight.

I woke up the morning of the 21st ready to conquer the World. It was amazing! I could see better, hear better, smell better. You don’t realize when you have been dragging around a dying body for so long how much you lose. I couldn’t wait to scream from the mountain tops of how greatful I am to the Lord and my donor and their family. I lived in constant chest pain and now I feel amazing! I was constantly short of breath, now I never am. I was always fatigued now I have so much energy! I am so very blessed and so very grateful! I have a life to live and I can make goals again!
