Revised national kidney transplant allocation system is now in place

Effective December 4, 2014, the national system that matches kidneys from deceased donors with patients needing transplantation will be revised significantly. It is meant to provide additional transplant opportunities for all candidates and improve access for specific groups of patients who often wait longer than average for a transplant.

100th living donor kidney transplant arranged through OPTN/UNOS Kidney Paired Donation Pilot Program

A series of three living donor kidney transplants performed July 7, 2014, marked the 98th, 99th and 100th that were arranged through the OPTN/UNOS Kidney Paired Donation Pilot Program (KPDPP). Two of the transplants occurred at Pinnacle Health in Harrisburg, Pa., while another took place at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago.
