Rita Woodward: Gratitude angel

Rita Woodward's painting

Rita Woodward's paintingI paint a lot of angels for other people. This one is for me. About four months ago, I received the ultimate gift from a complete stranger. I’ve been planning this piece for awhile, just haven’t been able to put paint to canvas.

Embedded in the under layers are hidden messages that are there to inspire and remind me. There is an empty space where my angel’s liver once was. The hands are in an open, giving position. The heart is the most colorful part, because it was a gift of love.

Each day, I think about my angel donor and family. I am alive because they made a decision in their time of unbearable grief. I hope to live my life in a way that would make them proud. I feel like I have a special angel watching over me, and I carry a part of that angel. I am so thankful.
