After battling heart disease for 13 years, I was given the chance in a lifetime by my donor.
I was 35 years old, pregnant with my 5th pregnancy, a rainbow baby. I had 2 previous miscarriages and this last pregnancy really took a toll on my heart. I was diagnosed with post-partum cardiomyopathy, and my heart started to fail, my condition worsening as the years went by.
I was accepted to be a candidate for heart transplant in January of 2023. Then by November 10th I was placed as a status 4 on the transplant list.
I stayed in ICU for approximately 6 months of 2023. Finally by December 9th my heart function dropped, requiring an implanted heart pump. As a result, my status went to a 2. Within 11 hours my prayers were answered; I received my first heart offer. I gladly accepted.
I received my donor heart, a gift of life, on December 10th, 2023. I was elated and knew without a doubt this was the perfect heart for me. By December 23rd I was able to go home and spend Christmas with my youngest child—a true Christmas blessing. Now, I’m doing great and spending great quality time with my family and loved ones.
