I was diagnosed with heart failure in 2005. At the time, I was a paramedic and professor sharing my lifesaving skills and experiences with the 3rd year medical students at Case Western Reserve University. That diagnosis CHF changed my life. My youngest daughter was 3 years old. The chief of cardiology, Dr. Alan Markowitz told me he needed to put a defib/pacemaker in my chest and place me on a transplant list. I waited for 12 patient years on that list. Life and death continued over the next decade plus when I received the call from my transplant team and was told that they had a heart for me.
