I woke up one Sunday morning in March, 2017 with my left arm swollen. I thought it was my heart so I went to a local ER and was diagnosed with cirrhosis and told I would need a transplant in 1 1/2 -2 years. I asked for a referral to Ohio State , was admitted for 22 days to get on transplant list, dismissed and returned 4 nights later when I received a call saying they had a liver for me. We drove 2 1/2 hours to get to Columbus to have the transplant Friday morning. Having a wonderful transplant surgeon, wonderful hepatologist, and staff, I was dismissed 6 days later. It was confusing at first to get the medicines right since they were plenty but it has become easier, not as many follow up visits, less lab visits. This was meant to be and I have so much to be thankful , the OSU Wexner staff, my family, and the donor’s family…. Life is great!
